CATT Lab Director Writes Feature Article for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
The Center for Advanced Transportation Technology Laboratory (CATT Lab) director, Michael L. Pack wrote “Visualization in Transportation: Challenges and Opportunities for Everyone” which was featured in July/August issue of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Computer Graphics and Applications newsletter. Pack’s article discusses the preconceived notions about transportation engineering and research, the broader aspect of the field and where the field is headed. Pack notes that five promising areas of transportation research include: real-time visualization; wide-area, real-time visualization; visualizing and mining archived data; massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) for transportation; and virtual design and construction. This article was also published in the August issue of IEEE’s Computing Now newsletter. To read the article visit: Computing Now (links to article). About IEEE IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications bridges the theory and practice of computer graphics. From specific algorithms to full system implementations, CG&A offers a unique combination of peer-reviewed feature articles and informal departments, including product announcements. Theme issues guest edited by leading researchers in their fields track the latest developments and trends in computer graphics. Tutorials and surveys provide a broad overview of interesting and timely topics in computer graphics. Regular departments emphasize areas of general interest including visualization, virtual reality, applications, and opinions. Each month, the story of our cover focuses on creative applications of the technology by an artist or designer. Published six times a year, CG&A is indispensable reading for people working at the leading edge of computer graphics technology and its applications in everything from business to the arts.
